Summer Palace Langkawi is one of the sets constructed for the box office movie "Anna and The King" at Pantai Kok. Construction commenced on 15th February 1999 and was completed on 30th March 1999. The producer, 20th Century Fox employed 25 foreigners and 75 locals to carry out work on the most expensive movie set in Langkawi. It occupies an area of 675 square metres and is 16.6 metres high. The Summer Palace comprises four sections and the structures are commonly found in Thailand:
- Jetty Pavilion
- Main Building
- Courtyard
- Anna's House
The whole building was constructed with 95% of wood and is surrounded by lush tropical greenery. In June 1999 the building was reconstructed to make it permanent, with additional facilities such as a restaurant, souvenir shops, ticker counters and a Pavilion. The Palace was opened to public in April 2000. It opens daily from 9a.m. to 10p.m.
